Nature in Flux: A Series
The plan was to create 5 pieces on wood panels. Starting with line art drawings which would then be transferred onto the wood. Afterwords, using a wood burning tool to redraw the lines into the wood. Once the line art has been burned, color will be added using either acrylic paint or gouache. This was an exploration of my interest in the natural world through the content and materials used for this pieces.
I wanted the drawings to be similar to each other in their content. Each exploring the relationship between soft and hard, life and death within the context of nature.
I very quickly realized that I did not have the skill or the time necessary to make these woodburnings look the way I imagined.
Also that the technique of trying to reverse etch using charcoal to transfer the line art was not going as I imagined.
So I switched to a different method where I used Mod Podge Matte Medium and my inkjet printer to do a more traditional image transfer.
The final pieces
After each image was transferred to their boards, I spattered gold enamel paint across each. Once that was dry, I used gouache paint to color them.
